Charlie Knece
Bob, Chuck passed away tonight at 8:15 tonight (March 2008), he went very peacefully. Life will never be the same, I not only lost my husband but my best friend. Please let everyone know how much I appreciate the E-mails, thoughts and prayers. Love to all Kay
Chuck (Charley) served onboard USS CORPORAL (SS-346) as a EM2(SS). from 1960-62. Since I did not have the pleasure of knowing him, I asked Bob to tell me about Charley. Bob stated: .You missed a great opportunity by not knowing EM2(SS) Charley Knece, Phil. He was one of those rare guys that put everything he had into his life, and what he could do for others. He retired as EMCM, and I would guess, had many friends throughout the Navy. He also played a mean third base for Corporal, and played with a gusto, just as he lived his life.
If you want to pass on condolences to Kay, she can be reached at:

Gabe Dimino - 67- 68 - 2006
Hi, I'm using Cubby's email as I am his girlfriend of many yrs. His real name was Gabriel John Paul Dimino & I wanted to let you know that he passed away last yr after a long illness. I thought that if you mention any of your fellow vets who have passed on at your reunion, you could include him in that tribute.
I don't have a lot of details about his service, although he loved his time in the Navy & spoke often of it fondly. The only reason he didn't stay was due to a back injury suffered on board which caused him problems his whole life. Otherwise, I believe he would have probably been a career sailor. He went on to earn a Master's degree in Education at Temple University in Philadelphia. He then taught at both the high school & college level, as well as serving as a social worker for low income teens & adults trying to get training & employment. His last yrs were spent as a management trainer at Honeywell & even longer at Stone & Webster Engineering here in Boston.
I know that his time in the Navy was in the mid-1960s ... I think it was '64-'66. He served on both the Corporal & the Tench. His rank was Petty Officer 3rd Class. He loved the submarine service & was very interested in everything to do with subs from then on. He even took me to Mystic Seaport in CT just to see a WWII sub there. He was also a musician who sang & played bass & guitar, & was privileged to work back in Philly with artists like John Oates, Bill Haley & Patti LaBelle.
Gabe was extremely proud of his Dolphins & kept them on a hat that he wore often. He was a member (& sometimes officer) of both the VietNam Veterans club & the Italian-American Veterans club here in Eastie, & sometimes marched in parades & other holiday ceremonies with them. He was a wonderful man with a huge heart, especially for his fellow disabled vets & their families.
I thought you might like to know a little about him as perhaps someone at your reunion may remember him.
Thank you, Pamela Like East Boston, MA
