2010 Reunion organized by Dennis Kauppinen

9/21 through 9/23- Groton CT

Shipmates,

I sent out this reunion info to everyone but, only some of you got it. Therefore I am sending it to everyone again. This year's reunion will be held in Groton, Ct from Tuesday Sept. 21 through Thursday Sept. 23. Ron Mohr and I went down to Groton and checked out seven hotels, and we have chosen three to give you a choice. We went to the Navy Lodge and their rates are $75 per night with no food no bar. The headquarters hotel will be the Groton Motor Inn. We were there last year and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It's a very nice place with an on site bar and restaurant.They are providing us with a free banquet room and hospitality room. They will also give us a free comp room for every 20 room nights. These will be given away at the banquet on Thursday night. Of course, you have to stay there to be eligible.

There will be a buffet dinner on Thursday evening. The cost is $32 per person and MUST be paid for in advance. We have to pay for all the dinners we order even if we have no shows. I am also able to get USS Corporal embroidered ball caps for $15. Please specify gold or silver dolphins. ALL checks should be made out to SS346 Fund, not me.

The Groton Motor Inn also has discounted tickets to area ponts of interest . These include Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport and others. There are also two large casinos within a half hour drive. I have written to the Sub Base to try and arrange a base tour. Ron Mohr will be going down to Group 2 to try and get us a boat tour.This may be difficult to do during the week as there are few boats in at anytime and they are usually in upkeep.

Now the hotel info:

Days Inn Rooms $69 per night but drops to $56 per night if we book 12 rooms All rooms are suites Continental breakfast, no restaurant or bar. They are the next building from Groton MI and their driveways connect.It's about a 2 minute walk. 135 Gold Star Hwy gm@daysinngroton.com 860-448-3000

Econlodge is about 3/4 mile east on Gold Star Hwy. Rooms $59 per night continental breakfast no restaurant or bar. www.econolodge.com 860-441986

The cut off dates for booking rooms at these rates is Aug. 15. After that you will have to pay the going rate. When you book you must tell them you are with the USS Corporal, otherwise you won't get the negotiated rate.

I would appreciate it if you would let me know where you are staying so I can make sure we get our discounts. Please don't wait until the last minute. I will send the list of attendees to Tom so he can post them on the website. Also, if you are attending, please send me the following info: Dates you served aboard Corporal, highest rank or rate while aboard and the name of your significant other if she (he) is coming. I want to make up nametags like we had in Saratoga.

Update July 1:

The Sub-base needs a definitive number for the base tour, which I have to supply them by the end of July. I will assume that every one attending will go so if you've already sent in your dinner check, no need to contact me. 

The rest of you, even if you've told me you're attending, please send your checks ASAP. The banquet is $32.00 per person and hats are $15.00 each. Specify silver or gold dolphins. I am ordering hats at the end of July so if you want one, send your check now.

ALL checks should be made payable to SS346 Fund, not me. Also, could you please furnish the following info for nametags. Your years of service on Corporal, your highest rank/rate while aboard and the name of your date if she is also coming.
