From Capt. Jean Paul Sheets
Great time. Bravo Zulu. Amazing how few of the "really good" stories I knew about.. And thanks to Chris for the Corporal cap and brew holder, Dennis for the underway colors, and J. C. for the entertainment. Warm Regards, Jean Paul Sheets
From Tom Bartlett
I had an 18 hour drive home on Sunday to wonder what words I would use to answer the question, "how was it". I concluded that no words could possibly convey what a thrilling experience it was to see you all. The greatest regret of my life had been losing track of you guys because it was not until later in life that I understood how special was the way we melded our talents to accomplish common goals. We learned how to conquer the world together and seeing you all and knowing that life has been good to you too makes my life complete. And the charming wives who joined us in NC were no less special than we. I love you guys.
From COB Bill Ervin
Just wanted to say "thanks" for a great weekend. Can't remember when I had a better time and it was the best reunion I have attended. It was great seeing everyone after such a long time. Can't say enough good things about it.
From Barry Turano
Just wanted to say THANK YOU to all for this marvelous weekend. Please disregard the long run on sentences, poor grammar and emotions that will follow in the next few lines (command of the English language was never my strong point, not that I have any). First off it was so great to see everyone. Thank you for finding me. I hope that everyone made it home without incident. Thank you all for bringing back so many memories. In the normal everyday craziness that we all experience this was the greatest thing that could hasve happened. To see everyone again (a few for the first time) and to share so many memories and stories like the Visa commercial "priceless". What we experienced in those years has made us who and what we are today. I am very glad to have known and worked with all of you. A few of spoke about making this reunion a annual event. We have even looked at a location for next year, Roanoke Virginia. I am going to start looking into accomodations and activities. This will in no way interfere with the national convention in Little Rock. This would be just some old friends getting together to have a few beers and see one another. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I did notice one thing in the way that we have all grown (not aged) there is still that little spark of mischief in all of us. I guess that is what made us good sailors. In a conversation I had with Phil Recht on Saturday night he said we all would be "shipmates forever". Phil was right but it really should be "shipmates and friends forever". To all that made it thank you. To those that could not, please try to make the next one. It's just a wonderful experience. All the best to everyone, stay healthy my friends. Barry (tubes) Turano
From Glenn Zillhardt
I have been sitting here every night thinking about the great time I and position #3 (wife Jody) had at the reunion. When I went back to work everyone asked me, "how was it ?" I could not put it all in words so I just said it was great. I 'm still thinking about the experience. When I look back at my tour on the Corporal, I think how I couldn't wait to get off the boat and continue with my life. Little did I know that the continuation would be to see all of you and love every minute of it. I and position #3 can't wait for the next reunion.
From Rich "Skip" Fischer
However.....the reunion was just super. Like you, I can not put into words all that goes through my mind trying to rehash it all. To see so many old friends all at once after so many years was mindboggling. My hat is off to you and Dirt. It may have rained the entire time outside but there was plenty of warmth and sunshine wherever we gathered.
From Don Riggs
Had a great time, can't believe the memories that coming flooding back. Let me know when we are gonna do this again and I'll be there.
From Tom "Harry" Allison
I'll tell you what, Bartlett, you over did this time. I can't believe you pulled this one off. I sent "Thank You" to Dirt. What is really amazing is the turn out. Can you believe Anderson and Sheets. Unbelievable. These guys had no idea of enlisted and officer. I was impressed by the bullshit that passed between "wardroom and after battery". There just weren't any barriers.....Unreal...
From Ken Ayers
Will you put this on the net that Elsie and I cant begin to tell you all what last weekend meant to both of us. We so enjoyed it we did not want it to end, but they always say all good things must come to a end ,we had a very good trip home and we hope every one else did also
From Al Rendeiro
We had a great time! Thanks For Everything
From Dennis Kauppinen
Just wanted to let everyone know what a fantastic weekend I had in NC. Thanks Chris, I know it's a lot more work than you admitted to. It was great to see friends I haven't seen since 1970. This is a no B.S. story When we were in the Med in 1969, someone absconded with my camera. We were in Naples and I was about to climb Mt. Vesuvius and visit Pompeii. I borrowed someone's camera and asked for a duplicate set of the pictures. By the time we got back to Groton, I had forgotten all about them. Years later, while looking thru my Navy photos, I realized that I never got those pictures. I figured I never would because I'd forgotten whose camera I had borrowed. Saturday night as we were driving back to the hotel from dinner, I had a revelation. The guy driving the car was the same guy I borrowed the camera from. I confronted him and he said he had forgotten who had taken the pictures. To make a long story short, I had the pictures in my hand within the hour,36 years later! The man driving the car you ask? None other than Barry (Tubes) Turano....
From Phil Recht
Saw all the pics on the web site and they look great! You did a great job getting them up there, and they're a wonderful reminder of a memorable weekend. Kudos to you and Chris for putting the thing together and having it all come off so well. Lots of great times for lots of folks, and I had a blast. Thank you. Looking forward to the next one!
From Rich Boncal
Just returned home after visiting/harassing kids up and down the east coast (payback is sweet). Anyway, just wanted to let you know what a terrific time we had, From start to finish the weekend was perfect. Never expected to see so many shipmates and discuss so many topics in a weekend. Thanks for all the work, and we know it must have been monumental, you and "Dirt" and Dennis did to make everything go off without a hitch. In addition to the great memories we shared on Corporal, we now have new experiences to remember. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and until we do, stay healthy and be happy.
From Bob Gailes
I had a great time N.C. and seeing all of you just made it special. A special thanks to Chris and his wife for taking us into their home the first night. We had some good food, and some good talk. I just hope we didn't make to much of a mess. At least ( Fish ) got to do some landscaping on Chris's lawn with his truck!! Tom and "Dirt" you did a great job putting this together, and Dennis thanks for finding me so I could be there to enjoy it. Thanks again, 11/15/05
